Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, Church of Saint Anthony of Lisbon & Sé

We'll meet on the steps of the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora to begin a tour exploring Lisbon's most sacred side. Are you ready to experience the spiritual and religious heart of Portugal's capital? You'll be captivated by the beauty of its imposing churches and monuments steeped in faith!

To begin, we'll enter the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. Dedicated to Lisbon's patron saint and perched on a hill overlooking the Tagus River, this place holds a fascinating history. Did you know it was built as a fulfillment of a vow made by the first king of Portugal?

Throughout our visit, we'll tell you about this monumental complex and its significance to Portuguese religious heritage. We'll see, of course, the extraordinary collection of Baroque tiles it houses, as well as its cloisters, its polychrome marble sacristy, the 12th-century medieval cistern, and the Braganza Pantheon.

To complete our tour of the Monastery of São Vicente, we'll enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Lisbon from its terrace. The perfect spot for taking photos!

The next stop on our tour of sacred Lisbon will be the Church of Saint Anthony. This church was built on the site where, according to tradition, Lisbon's patron saint was born. You read that right! The city has two patron saints, a curious fact we'll share with you during the tour. We'll enter the church, located on the site of his former family home, and explore one of the main centers of devotion in the Portuguese capital.

To conclude this immersion into Lisbon's spiritual identity, we'll visit the majestic Lisbon Cathedral. The Sé is the oldest church in the city, built in the early 12th century after the Christian conquest. Inside, we'll visit the Royal Treasury Museum and see the precious relics of Saint Vincent and Saint Anthony.

We'll end the tour on a high note by ascending to the Cathedral's terrace, where you can admire Lisbon's historic center and the Tagus River in the distance. It's the perfect way to conclude this tour!
